The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) congratulates the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago on the country's successful election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027–2028 term.
This achievement represents a significant diplomatic milestone and reflects Trinidad and Tobago's longstanding commitment to international cooperation, constructive engagement, and responsible global citizenship. Securing the support of an overwhelming majority of UN Member States underscores the respect and confidence the international community has placed in our nation.
"Congratulations to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, the Hon Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sean Sobers, Ambassador to the UN, Dr Neil Parsan, and the hard-working staff of the Ministry who worked diligently to achieve this outcome. Securing a seat on the United Nations Security Council reflects the strength of Trinidad and Tobago’s diplomacy and its credibility within the international community," said Nirad Tewarie, CEO of AMCHAM T&T.
"Multilateralism, inclusive of pragmatic regionalism, must continue to be an important component of our foreign policy. At a time when global challenges increasingly require cooperation, dialogue, and partnership, this election provides Trinidad and Tobago with an important platform to contribute to international discussions while strengthening relationships that support trade, investment, security, and sustainable development."
AMCHAM T&T recognizes that membership on the Security Council will also provide Trinidad and Tobago with a greater opportunity to contribute to discussions on international peace, security, development, and emerging global challenges. It also elevates the country's visibility and influence within the international community at a time when strong diplomatic engagement is increasingly important.
For the business community, a stronger international profile can help reinforce investor confidence, deepen relationships with key partners, and support efforts to position Trinidad and Tobago as a competitive destination for trade, investment, and innovation.
AMCHAM T&T reaffirms its commitment to working collaboratively with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, the diplomatic community, and key stakeholders to strengthen our nation's competitiveness, international partnerships, and economic development.
We commend all those who contributed to this successful campaign and look forward to Trinidad and Tobago's continued leadership and representation on the international stage.
